There has been alot in the press recently regarding the use of Mounjaro, a weekly injection that is prescribed alongside a reduced calorie diet and exercise.. Mounjaro is a glucoagon - like peptide-1 (GLP -1) agonist. The NHS plan to roll this out from March 2025 to patients who are obese with weight related health problems. The patient must have a body mass index of 30kg/m or 27-30 kg/m with at least one weight related health problem, such as:
Prediabetes
High blood pressure
Heart cholesteraol
Heart problems
Type 2 diabetes.
The roll out of Mounjaro in the NHS could take up to 12 years.
